Château de Chillon
Two sides in a historically unique castle: On one hand the sturdy fort towards the mountainside, on the other hand the magnificent residence towards the Lake of Geneva. From 1733 this former protectorate, which was given over to ruin, shows itself today brilliantly renovated, as a unique memory of the eventful history from the twelfth to the sixteenth century.

Its important situation on the north-south axis of the trade route to Italy and surrounded by nature’s beauty, makes the Castle of Chillon one of the most unique and impressive castles in the world. The snow-covered mountain tops of the Alps as well as the soft Lake Geneva with its lovely coast line make a wonderful scenery.
The Castle of Chillon was built on a rocky island, which was hard to conquer, and it guards a natural tight pass between the lake and the former trade road.
Over the centuries roman and an early gothic architectural styles were combined. The castle is made of 25 construction bodies. The oldest ones were made in the first millennium. Count Peter II of Savoy had the Castle of Chillon completely rebuilt and enlarged in the 13th century.
